Our Potty Training Saga

I've waited so long to write this post that I'm almost certain I can hear a choir of angels singing in the background right now.
For anyone that knows us...we've fought this battle for a year now. Our adorable 3 yr old took his sweet time when it came to potty training. We often felt discouraged watching other children around him catch on so quick...but I've read that 3 1/2 is the AVERAGE age at which boys train. Phew...
Our little guy got the #1 down a yr ago but still continued accidents. Because we tried EVERYTHING in the book, I'm going to share our story about what worked & what didn't. (For those of you that need it!)

Pullups-Didn't work. We thought it was a great idea and although it helped him learn to pull up and down, he got lazy. He even got to a point where he LIKED making the pictures disappear.

Putting him in Underwear-Didn't work. We made him stay in them wet, made him clean up when he had a #2 accident. Even threw away the cool ones he picked out if he ruined them. Didn't phase him.

Sticker Chart-Didn't work. It was too hard to stay on top of it and he didn't really catch on to the concept. It wasn't visual enough for him & he couldn't play with it so super unstimulating for him.

Giant Prize-Sorta worked. We took him to the store, let him pick out the coolest toy he wanted the most. We put it on top of our TV center so he could see it & work toward it once he was potty trained. He got really angry about not having it and felt tricked. In the end we gave it to him and he got really excited though.

We were so fed up that we chose the naked game. Weird-anytime we were home we made him hang out in the nude and let me tell you it WORKED. He RAN to the bathroom and I never thought I'd smile that big. I have to admit it totally freaked me out sitting there on the couch looking over with his little weanie touching everything. I about lost it. BUT IT WORKED!!!In the end, it was a combination of that and getting candy rewards.

He picked out lots of different gummy candy...like these Army men. He loves getting rewarded when he goes!! The trick was he only got them when he went #2. He had #1 down so no real reason to work harder if he got rewarded for that.

His favorite underwears...

Aw, a sight I'd never thought would float my boat

The night he went without any accidents for 2 days we had a Potty Party and danced around for him and rewarded him with his Hummer he picked out

Here's a smile that doesn't have to clean up doo-doo anymore...
Um...sorry, his dad's fault

Go Kayson! My mom said she let me run naked when i was potty training about five years ago, too! We have that in common.

Oh how I hate potty training! To this day it is still the worst job I've had to do as a parent... and the crappy part (literaly) is that I am not to far off from having to do it AGAIN!

Oh man Bennett turns 3 in January and the diaper thing is killing me! I have two in diapers and he better be out of the them by the time he is 3. The naked thing worked for Kambri too, I don't know about Bennett though he hates to be naked. Thanks for the tips and I'm glad he is finally done:)

Hahahahaha! This is funny. I have a feeling my guy is going to take his dear sweet time... then you can laugh at me when I am cleaning up poo.
