Kayson's Surgery

We finally got back on schedule for Kayson's dental surgery after the heart condition hiccup we ran into last time. Pulling into Primary Children's hospital just gives me the heebie jeebies. I know it's a wonderful place where miracles happen. But when we pulled in last month, my exact words were, "I hope we never have to come here again." And I meant that. We DID have to go back so I jinxed us, ha. But you never want a reason for your children to have to go there. It just scares me to think of my children hurting or needing surgeries...or worse, ending up with devastating illnesses. It's hard thinking of all the children there, going through whatever their trials may be, and the parents standing by watching it all. But they took wonderful care of our little guy!

Kayson didn't have anything major. But we found out at a dental appt a few months ago...his FIRST dental appt, that he has really poor teeth. Not poor hygiene, but poor teeth. He had 8 cavities and needed 2 root canals. Yikes!!!!!! And he had to be put completely to sleep for that. The dentist said he could tell Kayson brushes because the cavities were in between the teeth, which means he needs to floss. What?? I never flossed as a kid and I didn't have a cavity til I was over 20. So I blame it on myself for not preventing it. But now we know his teeth can't handle much!

During the month we had to postpone his surgery because of the heart condition, his teeth worsened. The 2 teeth that needed root canals became beyond repair and both of those molars had to be pulled. They put these metal spacers in their place.

By the way, we really love our dentist! He's great. Dr. Cam and his staff are so friendly and the environment up at the North View Pediatric Dentistry is wonderful! He really put Kayson at ease and we felt so safe with him!

His surgery didn't last long, only about an hour. When I went back to see him, I wondered if he'd be loopy and funny but he was a grumpy fella! He was really tired. He kept saying he smelled too much of the root beer gas. That's how they get ya buddy!
This was the best smile we could get out of him. He thought his teeth were pretty cool. They were HUGE!

More than anything, he was really excited for the Tooth Fairy to visit our house! Ok ALMOST more than anything. He was pretty excited about his Grandma Hunt bringing him all the yogurt, pudding and Jell-o snacks too!
I forgot to take a camera pic of the poem the Tooth Fairy left us, but luckily I snagged this cell phone shot to send to daddy since he missed it.
